Quick answers

The most frequent questions in compact form: what earSHIELD is, when it helps and what to check before buying.

What is earSHIELD?

A lightweight wind deflector for bike helmets that sits on the helmet strap in front of the ear and is designed to reduce distracting airflow around the ear.

What is the current recommendation?

For most customers, earSHIELD 2 is the best starting point: lightweight, modern, with sheep wool and hook-and-loop attachment.

Does the environment remain audible?

Yes. earSHIELD is not intended to close the ear. Traffic and warning signals must remain audible.

Does it fit every helmet?

The decisive factor is the path of the helmet strap in front of the ear. The closer the strap sits to the head, the better the conditions.

Which model fits?

All models are bike helmet wind deflectors for the area in front of the ear. They mainly differ in size, material, attachment and adjustment options.

earSHIELD Pro

The larger premium version with more surface area and a particularly wide adjustment range.

  • approx. 7 g per side
  • sheep wool outside, polyamide inside
  • for more tolerance around the helmet strap

earSHIELD mini

The particularly compact polyamide version for a discreet look and closely fitting helmet straps.

  • approx. 8 g per side
  • smaller and less noticeable
  • good when you want as little visible as possible

earSHIELD Classic

The proven original polyamide model for everyone who prefers the classic earSHIELD solution.

  • approx. 9 g per side
  • robust original design
  • still available as the classic model

Frequently asked questions

Effect and noise

How does earSHIELD work against airflow around the ear?

earSHIELD sits on the bike helmet strap in front of the ear and deflects part of the airflow sideways away from the ear. This can reduce wind noise and cold drafts around the ear without fully covering the ear.

Does earSHIELD eliminate wind noise completely?

No. earSHIELD is not hearing protection and not a closed ear cover. The effect depends on helmet, strap position, ear shape, glasses position, speed and wind direction. The goal is a noticeably more comfortable ride, not complete silence.

Does earSHIELD affect hearing in traffic?

earSHIELD is not intended to close the ear. Traffic, warning signals, conversations and other ambient sounds must remain audible. Before every ride, check that everything sits securely and that you can perceive your surroundings well.

Is earSHIELD an ear warmer?

No. earSHIELD is a bike helmet wind deflector. Because the ear remains free, earSHIELD does not replace a hat or ear warmer in low temperatures. However, many customers find cold airflow around the ear less unpleasant.

Compatibility

Is earSHIELD compatible with every bike helmet?

earSHIELD is intended for bike helmets where the chin strap runs in front of the ear. The key point is that the strap sits as close to the head as possible in that area. With earSHIELD 2 and earSHIELD mini, there should be only little distance in front of the ear; earSHIELD Pro offers more tolerance.

If you are unsure, send a photo of your helmet from a front-side angle to support@ear-shield.com.

Can I use earSHIELD with glasses, sunglasses or sports glasses?

In many cases, yes. earSHIELD sits on the helmet strap and not directly on the ear. The important question is whether the helmet strap, glasses arm and ear area have enough room together and whether anything presses.

Can I use earSHIELD with in-ear headphones, AirPods or hearing aids?

This depends on ear shape, device and helmet strap. Because earSHIELD does not directly cover the ear, a combination is often possible. Always check that nothing presses, slips or masks important ambient sounds.

Can I use earSHIELD for other sports?

earSHIELD was developed as an accessory for bike helmets. For other helmets or sports, suitability depends on design, strap path and safety requirements. Do not use earSHIELD if it impairs helmet fit, vision, hearing or the protective function of the helmet.

Application and care

How is earSHIELD attached?

earSHIELD is attached as a pair to the helmet straps in front of the left and right ear. Depending on the model, attachment uses hook-and-loop fastening or the respective model construction. The exact positioning is shown on the application page and on the product-specific subpages.

How do I adjust the profile shape correctly?

The profile shape should be adjusted so that earSHIELD sits in front of the ear and can deflect airflow without fully covering or pressing on the ear. After installation, check that it sits securely and test on a short ride whether position and effect are right.

Should earSHIELD be checked before every ride?

Yes. Before every ride, check that both parts sit securely, are not damaged and do not interfere with the helmet strap or closure. If visible damage is present or after a crash, earSHIELD should be replaced.

Where can I find product safety and manufacturer information?

The product-specific safety and manufacturer information is listed on each product page in the "Product safety and manufacturer information" section. There you will find the manufacturer, contact address, product identification and safety-relevant notes for the specific model.

earSHIELD 2 · earSHIELD Pro · earSHIELD mini · earSHIELD Classic

How do I clean and care for earSHIELD?

Carefully remove dirt by hand and let damp parts dry at room temperature. Do not use a washing machine, dryer or aggressive cleaning agents. The surface of the sheep wool models earSHIELD 2 and earSHIELD Pro should be treated gently.

Ordering and shipping

What is included?

earSHIELD is supplied as a pair for the left and right side. Depending on the model, the matching attachment elements and application notes are included.

Where do you ship?

The shop is focused on Germany, the EU and Switzerland. Shipping is mostly by letter mail. The specific available shipping methods, delivery times and costs are shown at checkout.

Can I get model advice before buying?

Yes. Ideally, send a photo of your bike helmet from a front-side angle, with the chin strap closed and the helmet sitting normally on your head. This makes it easier to assess whether earSHIELD 2, earSHIELD Pro, earSHIELD mini or earSHIELD Classic makes more sense.

Are special colors or custom versions available?

The shop shows the currently available regular variants. Special colors or custom versions are not planned as a standard offer. You can still ask if you have special requirements.
